‘গড পার্টিকল’-মিসইউজ অব টার্মিনোলজি, প্রকাশকই নাম দিয়েছিল

সুইজারল্যান্ডের সার্ন ল্যাবরেটরির বিজ্ঞানীরা 'সাবএ্যাটমিক পার্টিকল' ধরছেন বলে যে ঘোষণা দিছেন, সেই অতিপারমানবিক কণাটার নাম 'গড পার্টিকল' দেয়া একটা চমক ছাড়া কিছু না। ধারণা এই যে, ওই কণা দ্বারা 'a key to understanding why there is diversity and life in the universe'.

স্কটিশ বিজ্ঞানী পিটার হিগস আর বাঙালী বিজ্ঞানী সত্যেন বোস এর ১৯৬০ সালের প্রিডিকশন বলেই ওই কণার নাম হিগস-বোসন কণা। 'Scottish physicist Peter Higgs has said he objected to the "God particle" label..

'এ ছাড়া 'গড পার্টিকল' লেবেল লাগানোর ব্যাপারে Nobel-prize winning physicist Leon Lederman বলেছেন- "I find it embarrassing because, though I'm not a believer myself, I think it is the kind of misuse of terminology".

Lederman এর বইটির নাম চয়েসের ব্যাপারে প্রকাশক কিভাবে হস্তক্ষেপ করেছিল তাও পাওয়া গেল। প্রকাশকই নাম রেখেছিল বইটির 'গড পার্টিকল'। বিজ্ঞানী রাজী ছিলেন না। বলেছেন অমন আচরণ 'ভিলেইনাস'।

It wasn't even Lederman's choice. "He wanted to refer to it as that '[g–d—] particle' and his editor wouldn't let him," says Higgs. এবং 'the publisher wouldn't let us call it the [G–d—] Particle'এবং 'Almost all particle physicists detest that name. …'

তো ওই কণা পাওয়াতে কি পাওয়া গেল? সার্ন বিজ্ঞানী- CERN scientist Albert De Roeck জানালেন-"This is the only way we can actually move on and have a deeper understanding of how things work. It can only be in our benefit exploring that."

সার্ন'এর আরেক বিজ্ঞানী Volkas বলেছেন-"We just want to know how the world works, but in order to answer those questions you have to develop new technologies,"

এই হলো- 'গড পার্টিকল'র মর্ম কথা।
